Matthew Santos - Into The Further
Although much of this music is quietly meditative, one called "All Works Out" really finds Santos stretching out and infusing the track with passion. It's difficult to describe the style of it, although there is much inventive guitar that is as much Spanish guitar as it is pop strumming. Then with "Second Chances," Santos shifts down to a near hush. These two songs alone illustrate the great range of music found on this project. With "White Gloves," though, Santos goes for something a little more funky; albeit funky in Santos' style, as it utilizes an acoustic bass to create its low end groove. "Just to See You" forgoes the guitar backing for an acoustic ballad, which makes it stand out. The album closes with "And Now the Leap," which begins with what sounds like Gregorian chant music before evolving into a jazzy groove.
There is much to explore on Into The Further, which is why Santos chose the exactly perfect title for this project.
