bloodstains - speed kills
fast cars - cheap thrills
rich girls - fine wine
I've lost my sense - I've lost control - I've lost my mind
The song "Bloodstains" by none other than Agent Orange was an "anthem," if you will, for many young original punks from Orange County, Ca in the early 80's. Yes, another band from The Great OC.
Living in Darkness is the debut album from Agent Orange, released on Posh Boy Records in 1981. This album showcases the band's mixture of punk with metal and surf influences.
The original album consisted of eight tracks. In 1992, it was expanded to include three unreleased tracks from the album sessions ("Pipeline", "Breakdown" and "Mr. Moto") as well as the 1979 recordings that won them their Posh Boy contract ("Bloodstains", "America", "Bored of You" and "El Dorado").
Three songs are covers of classic surf instrumentals: "Pipeline" by The Chantays, "Miserlou" by Dick Dale and "Mr. Moto" by The Bel-Airs. "Everything Turns Grey" was featured in the 2001 film Freddy Got Fingered. "Bored of You" was featured in the 2013 open world video game, Grand Theft Auto V, on the Channel X punk-rock radio station.
I'll never forget seeing these guys play a Saturday afternoon matinee show in the parking lot behind the Huntington Beach Surf Museum back in 2001. One of the best punk shows I ever saw.
So let's heat up the needle for Agent Orange's "Living In Darkness" album. And remember to keep one foot in the gutter and one fist in the gold.
