Then again, neither were some of the other original members (Jeff Porcaro has passed away and Mike Porcaro has Lou Gehrig 's disease) but any concern over the line-up can be quickly swept aside as the show plays out.
The first part of the show is fairly esoteric as the band begins with a medley of "On the Run," "Child's Anthem" and "Goodbye Elenore" followed by "Goin' Home" and two of the best but lesser-hailed songs off the Hydra album; the title cut and "St. George and the Dragon."
The members of Toto have always been known as consummate musicians and here longtime members Steve Lukather, David Paich and Steve Porcaro are joined by the rhythm section of Simon Phillips (drums) and Nathan East (bass) and singer Joseph Williams for an exciting and flawless set that includes big hits "Africa" and "Hold the Line."
Other highlights include Lukather's acoustic playing on "99" and his vocal take on '80s hit "I'll Be Over You," the jazzy "Pamela," the crowd singing happy birthday to keys player Paich and a run-through of perennial favorite "Rosanna."
The hits sound great here but the deep album cuts, of which there are many, are likely to be what Toto fans treasure the most.
