The Lost Poets - Insubordia
Rosengren has a voice that sounds a whole lot like Peter Murphy, who in turn sounds a heck of a lot like David Bowie. Rosengren's singing voice is at its best during "Die to Live," which begins as an acoustic guitar-backed ballad. This track eventually ramps up to full rock & roll volume and ends up sounding much like a The Cult drama piece. The Lost Poets are actually a duo from Stockholm, Sweden, although you'd never guess this from the way Rosengren vocalizes.
This album's first single, "Ode To K," is described as, "essentially about a man selling his soul to the devil and how his life was before and after he died," according to Rosengren. "It's also an homage to the love of his life for trying to help him. It's all very suggestive and the inspiration, as always, comes from my own life in a twisted sort of way." It begins with the words, "I'm dying inside, my friend," and doesn't get much happier after that. It's a creepy, dark song, with a title that sounds like it's out of an Albert Camus novel.
Bella Lugosi may well be good and dead, but Goth is alive and well, boys and girls. The Lost Poets are a musical reminder of that.
