The Falling Birds - Native America

.
If all you heard by The Falling Birds was "Darling," you might suspect this trio was attempting to become the second coming of Nirvana. It's a loud 'n' proud rocker, full of crunchy grunge guitars and desperate vocals - much like Nirvana. However, most of the rest of this EP is far less rocking. In fact, hard rock is more of an exception to the rule.

There's a whole lot of folk and country going on, instead, during this five-song EP. "If Time Allows" begins relatively hesitantly with a country groove before evolving into an all-out hoedown. "NY Love Song" is acoustic, with nice 'n' folky harmonica added in. Its lyric speaks about a friend that's so self-destructive, the singer can't even watch anymore. There are a lot of flavor variations found within this band sampling, such as the south of the border garage rock that is "Arms out Wide" and the slightly funky, semi-White Stripes guitar work that powers "Dead Man Walking."

Who knows where these Falling Birds will eventually land, stylistically. What can be deciphered from this sampling, though, is that they have the talent to go in just about any direction they please.
