MGMT
Oracular Spectacular and Congratulations
Columbia
One of the most successful psych bands to break out of the underground in the past decade, here MGMT gets the deluxe treatment with these two vinyl reissues. Both releases are pressed on 180-gram audiophile-quality vinyl and while each LP comes housed in a plastic-lined protective inner sleeve also included are reproductions of the original inner sleeves, made of heavy paper and with lyrics and graphics.
Oracular Spectacular was the band's major label debut, quickly thrusting them into the limelight, so much so that when Europe's Union for a Popular Movement used the GRAMMY-nominated hit "Kids" without authorization MGMT also made news by having to sue. MGMT did realize a GRAMMY from Oracular Spectacular, sort of; a Justice remix of "Electric Feel" (the original version only is found here) took home a trophy.
Congratulations is presented on two LPs so the lengthy and very '60s-ish "Siberian Break" gets its own side while amongst the other cuts lie standouts like the psych pop of "Brian Eno," the cinematic instrumental "Lady Dada's Nightmare" and the trippy yet innocent in a childlike way "I Found a Whistle."
