David Mohai - Calm Like A Bomb

.
This track, "Calm Like A Bomb," features a spoken word-like vocal over a late night jazz arrangement highlighted by jazzy electric guitar. It may remind you of Cake songs, or even Stan Ridgeway-led Wall Of Voodoo tracks. This is because it is not sung at all. Perhaps another more relevant reference is Gil Scott- Heron. Scott-Heron is a better comparison because he was political - as this track most certainly is - as well as jazzy. Heron, in fact, may have been better known within the jazz community than among any other music fans. This lyric takes on a kind of stream of consciousness vibe, yet its words can also be extremely biting. At one point, the words "Hope lies in the smoldering rubble of empires" are thrown out there. This could be said of our modern times, yes, but it would also make sense when in describing past generations. This song may be softly performed, but its words are powerful - like a bomb - and not to be taken lightly.
