Clocks & Clouds - The Creation of Matter
On the Skrillex-to-Mozart continuum, Clocks & Clouds' The Creation of Matter release leans far closer to Mozart than Skrillex. The primary instrument that separates this group from, say, a string quartet is Derek Powers' drumming. While Stephanie Shogren's violin and Lucas Shogren's cello give this music its high class concert hall feel, the aptly named Powers drumming powers the grooves into a more rocking, rhythmic vibe.
However, the rightly titled "Pastorale" plays out sans percussion, coming off most classical of all. Yet "End Inevitable" returns to a more rock & roll dynamic.
The internet is chockfull of classical interpretations of popular songs, which is finding a wide audience and proving that even the average pop music fan enjoys a little classical music now and again. Clocks & Clouds is even better than these internet sensations, though, because they also compose their own music.
