Pat Metheny Group - We Live Here: Live in Japan

.
However you describe the music of jazz guitarist Pat Metheny, one thing it almost always is is breezy, and that's how this live show begins with energetic and airy numbers "Have You Heard" and "And Then I Knew."

But styles vary widely here; "Scrap Metal" with frenetic drums and wild trumpet fills comes off as Zappa-esque, "Farmer's Trust" is quiet and meditative and sees Metheny switch to acoustic guitar, "Episode D'Azur" is a showcase for longtime Metheny keys man Lyle Mays and "Third World" carries a Latin beat.

Those who are not too familiar with Metheny's extensive back catalog will likely still recognize one of the show's few vocal numbers in "This is Not America," the guitarist's collaboration with David Bowie that was featured prominently in the film The Falcon and the Snowman.
