The recording process for Johari Window started in October 2007 and went on until May 2008 but it wasn't done in your usual music studio. The entire disc was recorded in a warehouse in Fairfield New Jersey off Route 46. (I know you really didn't need to know the street but the information was available) It was in this warehouse that Carlon discovered the sound they were looking for with all the members contributing ideas and direction. The sound that came out of this recording process is hard to categorize, sometimes you get a folksy feel and sometimes it's a blues rock or maybe a classic country vibe. All in all Johari Window has a sound of its own and it's obvious the members of Carlon are not afraid to experiment and try different things. The disc starts off with an indie type rock song called "Mixed Messages," The next 2 songs "Cantaloupe" and "Where The Driveway End"s have that southern folk feel. Next comes "Rosie," my favorite song on the album with a classic rock sensation. The rest of the disc follows right in step, with an atmosphere that ties each song into the next seamlessly and ending with an acoustic track called "Murder The Night."
The members of Carlon hesitates to discuss the type of music they make and maybe Carlon shouldn't fit in any music category, maybe they should be just considered a musical group and left at that. The only comparison I could draw to any other music is maybe Black Rebel Motorcycle Clubs album Howl. Not BRMCs music in general just the disc Howl. Carlon may not be for everybody, it's not your usual guitar driven rock or synth pop but its a music of depth and quality. I suggest anyone who gets a chance to give this disc a listen, you may like it or you may not but I know I am now a fan.
