Robben Ford - Truth Review
Ford follows the opener with a lowdown blues tune ("How Deep in the Blues") to a much brighter tune ("Nobody's Fault but Mine") with great horns. Those two songs are a pretty good indicator of the rest of the album. Ford covers a lot of ground and incorporates a lot of different blues styles into this album.
This album is dedicated in part to BB King, and contains a song about him ("Riley B. King" ). The guitar solo is a pretty good impression of BB playing Lucille. "He's a king without a castle or crown." Indeed he is. Long live the King.
"One Man's Ceiling is Another Man's Floor" features Susan Tedeschi. I'll be honest, I love her voice. She has some pipes and she definitely doesn't disappoint in this song about apartment living.
"Peace on My Mind" is the protest song on this album. Interesting how popular protest song have become during the Bush administration. Coincidence? Probably not. In this song, Ford sings, "When fire meets fire, we burn away the common ground." Pretty profound. In fact, this whole song is filled with thought-provoking lyrics. I highly recommend it.
This is a really solid album. The vocals, the instrumentation, the lyrics are all great. I have to wonder why Robben Ford isn't more of a household name. If you're looking for some excellent blues guitar, get this album.
