An autopsy report released earlier this week revealed that Alice In Chains frontman Layne Staley died of an overdose of heroin and cocaine.
The King County Medical Examiner's Office released their finding earlier this week, which determined that Staley died on April 5th from a fatal mix of the two drugs that is often called speedballs in drug circles, the same mixture that claimed the lives of John Belushi and River Phoenix.
Staleys family asked the police to check on their son because they had not heard from him. On the evening of April 19th, police found Staley dead in his Seattle University District home on the evening of April 19th surrounded by drug paraphernalia.
The King County Medical Examiner's Office
issued a death certificate that states Staley's death resulted from "an
acute intoxication due to the combined effects of opiate (heroin) and cocaine".
They classified his death as accidental.
