Enuff Znuff have completed work on the long awaited follow up to 2000s 10, with final mastering of the as yet untitled 11th album from the band having been completed last week.
Band co-founder and bassist Chip Znuff is really enthusiastic about the new music calling it the bands best work ever. The band hopes to have the album released sometime before the end of the year. Most likely they will follow suit with their past few releases and issue the album in Europe and Japan before releasing it in North America. That will make it one of the longest time periods between releases since the bands debut album hit stores in 1989. It is doubtful that Spitfire Records, who have released Enuff Znuffs past two studio albums and reissued most the thier catalogue, will release the new album. The band hopes to reach a wider audience than they were capable of under Spitfire, which failed to take the singles from the bands last two albums Paraphernalia and 10 to radio. Even last summer while the band was playing to sold out arenas across North America and 10 had made a number of best of 2000 lists, Spitfire seemed to concentrate their efforts behind promoting the heavier bands on their roster. So it wouldnt be surprising if the band ends up releasing the new album through another label.
Switching labels is nothing new to the band, as they left their first label ATCO after the band was inadvertently caught between the crossfires of a power struggle between label execs and their second album, despite critical praise and really setting the tone for the grunge explosion that was to come, didnt get the push it should have so the band switched to Arista in 1993 where Clive Davis having been out of rock circles for over a decade and found success with artists like Whitney Houston and Barry Manilow encouraged the band to explore their more melodic side when they really should have released their album Tweaked which was more in tune with the heavy music of the era. While the band has always seemed to be ahead of their times musically, doing the Beatles inspired rock long before Oasis, pounding out heavy yet melodic rockers before Stone Temple Pilots rose to the top of the charts, now the timing seems perfect for the music on their 11th album to have maximum impact on the rock scene with several industry heavy weights who have admired the band from the side lines finally deciding the timing many just be right for the band with the resurgence of rock that is slowly building up in the music scene at the moment.
The band has several dates lined up in April including the Chicago arm of the International Pop Overthrow Festival, so fans may get a special sneak peak at some of the material from the new album then.
Meanwhile lead vocalist / guitarist Donnie Vie and lead guitarist Monaco are hard at work on solo projects. Donnie who recently moved out to Los Angeles to work on a solo project during the down time before the new Enuff Znuff album hits the stores, has completed work on his solo album and has been making various special solo appearances around Los Angeles. He recently ended his long time status as a bachelor and has never seemed happier, looking forward optimistically to the future release of the new Enuff Znuff album and his mellower solo project, as well as enjoying the married life. It wasn't clear at press time how Donnie plans to proceed with his solo project but fans in Los Angeles can get a taste of that material when he plays a headlining show next Wednesday (March 6th) at the Cat Club in Hollywood.
Lead guitarist Monaco continues to push forward with his solo projects, which include the rock band Johnny Monaco, his alternative techno group Low-tek and his Beatles tribute band Sadie. Monaco plans to launch the official website for his main solo project Low-tek in the coming weeks, but wants to make sure the site is perfect before unveiling it to fans. Meanwhile, he has a string of dates lined up in the Chicago area including a special Low-tek show, opening up for Enuff Znuff at the International Pop Overflow Festival on April 11th at the Double Door in Chicago.
Chip Znuff will as usual continue his role as spokesman for the band and is filling the time before the release of the new album by taking on new projects as a record producer. His production talent landed him the job with the power-pop group Supermint, who were also considering the Marvelous 3s Butch Walker for the job, but it appears Chip won out and will be the man behind the knobs for the new CD.
As for the music on the new Enuff Znuff album, I am told that fans can expect a heavier album than 2000s 10, it will rock but will still have the patented Enuff Znuff melodic flavor.
