The WB is putting a different spin on reality TV.  The themes are familiar but they taking two popular formats and putting them together with their new show called The Surreal Life, which is set to debut January 9th on the WB.

What is The Surreal Life?

You know the spiel when seven strangers are picked to live in a house  take that premise replace strangers with stars and then mix it with the latest fad in reality TV, popularized by The Osbournes of following the day to day adventures of celebrities and you have The Surreal World.

The show will star Motley Crues Vince Neil, MC Hammer, Beverly Hills 90210s Gabrielle Carteris, 80s teen actor Corey Feldman, star of Webster Emmanuel Lewis, Survivor IIs Jerri Manthey and Baywatch babe Brande Roderick.

Here is how The WB is billing the show:

When the stars fall from sight ... this is where they crash.

Once they were superstars. Now, they're back in the spotlight as they share a home and a series of outrageous and life-changing events for ten days and nights that can only be described as surreal.

The recipe for The Surreal Life is a simple one: Take seven bigger-than-life celebrities from every genre of the entertainment industry - rap music, heavy metal, feature films, sitcom, drama, and even reality television itself. Throw them together under pressure. Stir.

Trapped without transportation, cell phones or personal assistants, they must interact with each other, share bedrooms and bathrooms, do household chores, go grocery shopping and prepare meals together. The cameras never stop rolling, so the power struggles and personality clashes are all captured on film -  along with the very real new friendships.

The familiar faces include:
MC Hammer, Emmanuel Lewis, Brande Roderick, Corey Feldman, Gabrielle Carteris, Vince Neil, and Jerri Manthey.

A group camping trip, "Naked Sushi" night, a softball game, a unique backyard talent show and a surprising Hollywood wedding ... it's all part of everyday life - and it's always surreal.

Rick Telles and Cris Abrego (Road Rules) and Mark Cronin (The Howard Stern Show) created the series and serve as executive producers, along with Jay Renfroe and David Garfinkle (Blind Date). The Surreal Life is produced by Brass Ring Productions, Mindless Entertainment and Renegade Productions.
