Billy Morrison has announced that he will no longer be playing Bass for the Cult. In a statement on his official website, Billy writes, It's official. I will not be playing in The Cult anymore. I had a great time last year, and feel privileged to have had the opportunity to be a part of that band's long history. I move on now, and plan to complete my plans surrounding the music I have been making with JS Clayden [Pitchshifter]. I am sure that Camp Freddy will re-appear at some point later in the year, and I wish Ian, Billy, and Matt all the love and respect I have."
Meanwhile The Cults drummer Matt Sorum has been playing around Hollywood and as we reported last month has been working with his former Guns N Roses bandmates Slash and Duff McKagan in a new band.
Speaking of Guns N Roses here is some news on the official GNR band featuring Axl Rose. Koren music site Rocknew.com is reporting that Axl and his sidemen have cancelled their planned concert in Seoul, Korea on September 27th. Blabbermouth.net is reporting that the group is strongly rumored to have backed out of their planned Australian and Indonesian shows (which were reportedly set to happen on September 11-25 and September 29th, respectively) in order to concentrate on completing work on the band's perennially-delayed new album, tentatively entitled Chinese Democracy.
In the meantime, well just hold our breath while waiting for Axl to deliver the album.
Now back to The Cult - The Cult frontman Ian Astbury has been called upon by the remaining members of The Doors to take the late great Jim Morrisons place as vocalist for the group on September 6 when the band will perform at California Motor Speedway in Fontana, California as part of the Harley-Davidson Open Road Tour. It has also been speculated that Astbury will also front the band during an upcoming European tour.
The Doors also plan to go into the studio to record a new album and Astbury is one of the names being floated around to take on the vocal duties. Other singers mentioned for the project include Stone Temple Pilots Scott Weiland and Creeds Scott Stapp.
