The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that Lisa Left Eye Lopes was involved in a fatal auto accident in Honduras almost three weeks prior to the accident that took her own life. A U.S. embassy public affairs officer stated that Lopes was in a van being driven by her assistant, Stephanie Patterson, when the vehicle hit a ten-year-old child who stepped out onto the highway to La Ceiba. This was the same highway where a few weeks later Lopes would be in another accident that resulted in her death.
The child, Bayron Isaul Fuentes López, was rushed to Suyapa Clinic in San Pedro Sula after the accident but died soon after arriving according to the local Honduras newspaper La Prensa.
The childs parents reportedly did not press charges and the fatal accident was never reported to local authorities because Lopes and her assistant rushed the boy to the hospital and paid for the medical and funeral expenses. Lopes Honduras attorney confirmed that Lopes gave the family $925 and paid $3,700 in medical expenses as well as paying for the childs funeral. TLCs publicist did not wish to comment on this incident.
Lopes died in an auto accident on the same highway on April 25th. Speeding reportedly caused that accident. Lopes was on vacation in Honduras at the time.
