Tool made a strong showing the first week out of the gate with their latest album Lateralus. First week sales for the album were 555,000 which effectively knocked Destinys Child from the top spot on the Billboard 200 and gave Tool their highest chart debut and best selling week for any release.
It wasnt just the U.S. fans that snapped up Lateralus last week; The album also grabbed the No. 1 spot on the Australian and Canadian charts and hit the Top 10 around the world including Holland, Germany, Sweden, Austria, New Zealand and Norway.
Missy Elliott also made a strong showing on Billboard last week by taking the No. 2 spot with sales of over 250,000 units for her Miss Ealbum. Weezers self titled third album (a.k.a. The Green Album) debuted at No.4 with sales of 215,000 units and R.E.M. came in at No. 6 by selling 126,000 copies of their Reveal album.
Tool headed to Europe this week for a month long tour. An announcement of plans for a North American tour is expected soon.
