Big news for one of our favorite bands here at antiMUSIC! Neurotica has just inked a deal with the WWFs Smackdown Records.
Neurotica is the first artist signed to the new label. To this point Smackdown has sold WWF compilation CDs including WWF The Music Vol 4 & 5 and Agression. Regular antiMUSIC readers should be familiar with Neurotica from past coverage on our site as well as our sister site Rocknworld.com. In 1999 their sophomore album, Living in Dog Years, was awarded album of the year honors at Rocknworld.com.
Now with the power of the WWF behind them they are ready to take things to the next level. Aside from the new deal with Smackdown Records they have also signed with Evolution Talent Agency (Limp Bizkit, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, N Sync). They are currently in the studio recording material for their next album with producer Doug Kaye (Living in Dog Years). One of the tracks that is set to appear on the new album is a reworked version of Easy Speak a song co-written by Brian Johnson for their debut album. The song has undergone a name change to I Feel (Down).
Vocalist Kelly Shaefer, who was a pioneer of the progressive death metal movement with his former band Atheist, founded Neurotica in 1994. With Neurotica Kelly adopted a more toned down post grunge hard rock sound. They were first discovered by AC/DCs Brian Johnson at a small club in Florida. Johnson took them under his wing, got them a deal with NMG Entertainment and produced their debut album Seed. Neuroticas followed up Seed with Living in Dog Years in 1999 which landed the band critical praise and a larger fan base.
The release date for the new Neurotica album on Smackdown Records was unknown at press time.
