Allstar news is reporting that U2�s Elevation Tour was the top moneymaker of 2001 grossing $143 million dollars, according to a report issued by Amusement Business.
The world�s two most popular money machine boybands, �N Sync and Backstreet Boys came in right behind U2 with approximately $90 million each. �N Sync held a small profit advantage over the Backstreet Boys by bringing in $90.2 million to BSB�s $89.8 million.
Madonna landed in fourth place with revenues of $74 million and Dave Matthews Band rounded out the Top 5 with $65 million.
Industry veterans dominated the rest of the Top 10. Billy Joel and Elton John�s joint tour brought in $58.9 million. Eric Clapton landed at No.7 with $43.5 million followed close behind by Janet Jackson who earned $40.6 million. Aerosmith landed right on Jackson�s heals with $40 million and the Thunder from Down Under AC/DC, completes the Top 10 with earnings of 28.3 million.
