A new book was released this week that tells the inside story of grunge rock pioneers Alice in Chains from the perspective of bassist Mike Starr. Titled, "Unchained...The Story Of Mike Starr And His Rise And Fall In Alice In Chains." The book is said to give the readers the inside story of the band meteoric rise to stardom and the pitfalls along the way.
The author John Brandon told antiMUSIC more about the book and how it came to be. Mike Starr and I began work on it in December 1999 and I just completed it. It's based on interviews with Mike, his parents and sister, and several of his close friends. Said Brandon, It's about Mike's life story, Alice In Chains from the beginning, the entire Grunge Music scene, and Mike's heroin addiction. It uncovers much of the mystique of Alice In Chains and it's the only book I know of about the band.
The book is published by Xanadu Enterprises of Iowa who have set up a special website just for the book at www.unchainedbook.com. The website entices readers to buy the book by promising to uncover the many mysteries... and much of the mystique... of Alice In Chains.
If that doesnt grab you the book also explores, The early poverty, the music, the fame, the women, the fans, the dangerous drug addictions, and the unfortunate decline. The story is told by Mike Starr, his family, and several of his close friends. It includes exclusive stories about: Sean Kinney, Layne Staley, Jerry Cantrell, Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, Nirvana, Pauly Shore, Matt Dillon, Van Halen, Pearl Jam, and Evel Knievel. It explores the question, How likely is Alice In Chains to make a comeback?
Unchained... is the compelling story of Mike Starr's roller-coaster ride that packed more thrills and experiences into a few years than most people could have in 10 lifetimes. Find out: how Alice In Chains was first discovered, why 3,000 girlfriends weren't enough for Mike Starr, who punched out Kurt Cobain in Brazil, why heroin kills you when you overdose, why you'd rather be dead than quit, and what happened when Alice In Chains' lead singer, Layne Staley, insulted the Ku Klux Klan on stage in the heart of Louisiana. (Hint: it wasn't pretty.)
Those who want to know the inside story can order a copy of the book online at www.unchainedbook.com.
