The masked men wrap up a US tour supporting the hit album this month after spending most of 2000 taking their unique style of theatrical rock to the masses. The critics love it as well. Unlike those other masked rock n roll crusaders, KISS, who have more often then not been written off by the press as a gimmick, Slipknot has won over a majority of reviewers, not only with their explosive show but with their heavy music as well. So have the critics come around finally, realizing there is validity to a fan paying good money for a show and wanting to experience more than four or five guys standing around in t-shirts and jeans on stage?
So what's next? Double Platinum? Will Slipknot become the next supergroup? Have they become the younger generation's version of KISS? Is the Slipknot experience all about image with no substance? Not so according to a recent review in the New York Times by Neil Strauss, "Take away the rubber masks, the numbers that its members use instead of names (0 through 8) and the unlikely hometown of Des Moines, and Slipknot is still an impressive band. Live, all nine members are constantly in motion, beating on metallic percussion, scratching records, grinding...guitar riffs, scream-singing, and proving themselves one of the most exciting and enigmatic of rock's current crop of new bands."
The current U.S. tour comes to a close on May 28th in Landover, MD where they will play with Rage Against the Machine, Stone Temple Pilots, the Deftones, and Godsmack. From there they will head to Europe to play a series of dates and return to the U.S. to be part of the "Tattoo the Earth" festival in mid July. As soon as we have the dates to the "Tattoo the Earth" festival we will pass them along to you.
Even if you are not familiar with Slipknot, you might want to check them out - It will be an experience you will not soon forget.
