There were no big surprises in the selection of inductees for 2001 in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Michael Jackson, Paul Simon were easy choices with Aerosmith and Queen getting the nod after being passed over for the past two years. Steely Dan, The Flamingos, and Ritchie Valens also made the cut.
Guess who got passed over? No surprises here either, the Halls long contempt for Hard Rock and other forms of less than commercial friendly music continued with the passing over of Black Sabbath, AC/DC, The New York Dolls, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lou Reed, and Patti Smith. The Hall also snubbed rocker Bob Seger this year.
You can bet Ozzy, Angus, Patti, Buster, and Bob Seger wont be making an appearance at the formal induction ceremony on March 19, 2001 at the Walforf Astoria in New York City. Then again is the Waldorf really an appropriate venue for Rock n Roll? If youre connected to the Rock Hall it might be, then again the die in woods rock fans wouldnt be caught dead there!
