Singled Out: Nick Dean's How Did We?
.
Nick Dean, who is an alternative-pop singer/songwriter/producer and filmmaker, just released a brand new single called "How Did We?" and to celebrate we asked him to tell us about the track. Here is the story: "How Did We?" was written in December of last year. I had just flown into LA from Italy. I had been working on my EP since the summer with Mike Miller, my friend and longtime collaborator, and knew we wanted to get one more record in before the end of the year. Mike and I had just landed and only had 48 hours to make something with him before I had to fly back to Europe. In retrospect, the time crunch, plus the jet lag influenced the whole vibe/sound of the record. I was tired, a bit off, and my voice was scratchy. I really didn't think we were going to make something relatively worth releasing in that amount of time. When I was writing it, I kept on thinking in my head, "How did I get here?," thinking I was in Europe only a day ago. When the lyrics started coming out, I started pulling from a night out I had on Halloween where I woke up and for the first time, didn't remember the night. The irony of how a night I didn't remember somehow becoming memorable to me inspired me. Turning a memory that, at the time, bugged me, into something fun to look back on. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself here and learn more about Nick right here!
