Vancouver Hip-hop/reggae artist Gisto is releasing his new album "OMW" tomorrow (December 1st) and to celebrate we asked him to tell us about the title track and "Pure Energy". Here are the story:

"OMW": The song "OMW" was written in response to a breakup of a long and toxic relationship. I was disillusioned and my pride was hurt but faced with my vulnerability, I was brought closer to my true self. I realized the blessing I found by cutting out that kind of detracting negative energy. Music has always been my medicine and now I had the chance to focus the intention on myself and say "I'm on my way everything out of my way. Written and recorded while exiling myself to a remote mountain studio in the Kootenays. I surrounded myself with good friends away from the city and negativity I left behind.

Shortly after that, I was invited to perform with my homie Emotionz at the Bamboo Bass festival in Costa Rica. There I met Glovely and we shot the video for "OMW" on Jaco Beach. I met so many other great artists and creative people there and the video perfectly captures the trippy adventure we had together. Looking back if it weren't for all the challenges I would have never got to the place I am now, which is just a point on the journey "OMW".

"Pure Energy": as written and recorded while in an altered state of consciousness. I was suddenly aware that everything around me including myself was just vibrating molecular energy, and through some sort of string of awareness, we're able to create and sustain this sort of thing called "reality". It made me realize everything is connected and although "I'm a light in the tunnel, I would be nothing without the darkness and struggle". The lyrics and message of the song appeared in my mind as a whole thought. It's about being self-aware of our true nature as subjective beings with this objective awareness. enticing me to let go of the constructed Narrative of good and bad and try to see things for what they truly are knowing good and bad are symptoms of each other. Written and recorded in my studio in Vancouver B.C. on a beat that I had built a few days prior it became a favorite of all my woke fam and I knew I had to put it on my new album.

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
