Singled Out: Mike Mentz's Someday
. ![]()
Mike Mentz recently released a video for his new single "Someday" which will feature featured on his forthcoming album. To celebrate we asked Mike to tell us about the track and the clip. Here is the story: "Someday" is the very first track on my new record SOUVENIR (coming in 2018). It's about two people who don't notice til it's too late that they've spent so much of their time and energy on things that don't really matter that they've completely lost out on the things that do. We all make promises to ourselves that we swear we'll keep later. I'll take that trip -- I'll start that business -- I'll spend more time with my family. And we're absolutely sure we'll keep these promises...someday. The thing is, for a lot of our dreams, someday has a funny way of never being today. This song holds a mirror to that idea for me. It's a screaming reminder for me to live every day as close as possible to the way I'd live my last. For the music video, I wanted the world to literally fly by this guy while he stared at a screen. My buddy and master cameraman John Eiberger suggested we shoot in time lapse, and I was immediately like "YES THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WE'LL DO." My sweet home Chicago provided some super vibrant backdrops for the filming, which we were able to knock out with 7 shoots over as many months. I want to take this and every opportunity I get to thank my incredible team for helping me make this thing. From shooting to editing (Ben Winter) to finding filming locations, this bad boy took a village and I'm so grateful for their work. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the video right here!
