Singled Out: Voldo Blanka's Go Your Way
.
Head of the Herd frontman Neu Mannas has returned as Voldo Blanka and recently released a video for his debut single "Go Your Way" starring Gracie Stewart and Judson Emery. To celebrate we asked him to shares some details about the track and visual. Here is the story: "Go Your Way" represents a really pivotal moment for me musically. Not just for Voldo Blanka but for where I am as a musician and a person. I spend a lot of time on the keys but I generally use the piano to map out ideas and then play them on something else. The classical piano line from Go Your Way was the first time I really shocked myself with a piano line. It was powerful, but vulnerable. Reclusive, yet cinematic. Once I had that piano line sorted I had the foundation for this record 'nuns enjoy a madman' and the whole Voldo Blanka project. I started to make movie moments within the songs, and between the songs. In some ways it straddled theatre and electronica and that gave me license to make it as odd and fantastic as I wanted. So I went all the way down the rabbit hole creatively. It was scary and confusing but I knew at some point I'd be on the other side of it. And that's where I am now. The record is out and "Go Your Way" is the waving flag. For the video I knew more who I wanted than what I wanted. Gracie Stewart is an incredible dancer, creative mind, and friend. I was on tour with my last band Head of the Herd and I knew it was the end of the line for that group. It was by coincidence but backstage at our last gig was when I was describing to Gracie what the song was about. I told her how emotionally, the song is about a necessary breakup, but not the biting resentful elements, but the continuing love and difficult support. She put those feelings through her body and into a dance that told the story better than I could have imagined. Nathan Kim directed the video and shot it in LA. They represented the feeling of isolation even within chaos. There's nothing like collaborating in this way. I don't speak their language and they don't speak mine. But we created something together that I truly love. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen and watch for yourself here and learn more about the Voldo Blanka right here!
