Shawn Mendes Streams New Song 'Don't Be A Fool'
. ![]() (Radio.com) Shawn Mendes summarizes the problem of millennial dating in his newest single "Don't Be a Fool." Even though he's spending time with a girl he cares deeply about, he knows he's not in it until the very end, so he cautions the girl not to be a fool and get swept up in the moment. The song appears on his forthcoming sophomore album Illuminate. "Don't Be a Fool" begins with a somber electric guitar and Mendes' voice, which soulfully pines for what he knows can never be. "You've got my heart, but I can't let you keep it, babe/ Cuz I won't be sure that I can stay/ Don't waste your time trying to pull me in/ Cuz I'm just a mess you don't wanna fix," he sings on the first verse. Mendes can't walk away just yet, but he knows what they have won't last forever. "Don't be a fool and say that you love me/ Cuz you'll find a man who will stand by your side and will be there for you/ I don't think you'll ever understand, I don't think you'll ever understand/ I know that you don't wanna hear this, but darling, please don't be a fool," he sings on the chorus.
