Singled Out: Sweet Cambodia's Anxiety
.
Orlando-based indie-funk-rockers Sweet Cambodia recently released their latest single, "Anxiety," and to celebrate we asked to tell us the story behind the track from tells us the wild story behind the track. Here is the story: Our new single Anxiety pertains to those nights that are all said and done. When things are over for better or for worse. Eric had been messing around on the guitar with a new lick he had written out. The tempo was much slower, and the swing wasn't there yet. Although he did have the theme picked out. He wrote it about Savvy, and one crazy night. This is that one night from Savvys' perspective. "Just one more drink one more drink I'll be good I really think" - First line of Anxiety. Around that time the band wasn't complete yet. There was only three members, and the name Sweet Cambodia had just been created. Don, Eric and I had invited our friend Blue over for drinks, which worked out since she had a friend in town. Which is always an excuse to drink. Cut to the six of us playing ring of fire (a drinking game). The night continues on, and I end up drinking myself under the table. Puking, nudity, and blackouts, we all know the deal. The next day comes the guys go to get food I decide to stay at my house cook. While Donnie, and Eric go and come back. As I'm in the kitchen moving stuff around, it hits me. The memories of the night before slam into me like a ton of bricks. Memories of betraying my significant other's trust from the night before flood my head. I collapse. Due to the overwhelming weight of guilt that crushes down on top of me. For there is no greater wrong than doing someone who only brings positivity into your life dirty. I spiraled after that. The thoughts of failure, and self disgust were only a few of the million thoughts bombarding my conscience. So I called her. Told her first thing on the phone, and had accepted the consequences of my childlike behavior. The guys found me in my kitchen on the floor sobbing, and talking to God. The song is written to tell the story. To pay respects to our mistakes, and that we must face that. Although the most difficult thing you must face yourself because no one else has a greater opportunity than you to see, and understand. Simply put, be honest with yourself. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
