Singled Out: Alexander Wolfe's Fixed For Today
. ![]() London based singer/songwriter Alexander Wolfe will be releasing his new single 'Fixed For Today' on Friday (October 14th) and to celebrate we asked him to tell us the story behind the song. Here is the story: I wrote the bones of 'Fixed For Today' when I was kid, when I say kid, I mean like 18... So in various forms and versions it's been knocking around forever. One version had this 60s girl group chorus, another version was like an acoustic Dylan song with harmonica all over it. In various incarnations it has nearly made it onto all 3 of my previous albums. Which is interesting because that is literally never how I write, I always go forward, never revisit old stuff. But this song just wouldn't go away. It just kept knocking at the door. The 2016 version of the song is about feeling ok, it's about getting through a tricky thing and realizing that life can be a motherf***er, but that's ok. All through 2015 I was tangled up in a bad record deal with a sketchy label, and I wrote the chorus with my brother on the morning I was released from the deal, I suppose it is the sound of me being set free. Blowing the cobwebs out. We recorded the song In Dean St Studios in Soho one night, it's this beautiful old recording studio which David Bowie and T-Rex used to record in. I played all the instruments except the drums which were played by my friend Steve Pilgrim and we just threw it down, tried to keep it rough and spontaneous. The vocal on the track is the guide vocal. Lastly my friend Trevor Mires added some Otis Redding horns and that was it. It went down really easy. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
