Singled Out: Shokran's Creatures From The Mud
. ![]() Moscow groove prog metalers Shokran just released their brand new album "Exodus" and to celebrate we asked them to tell us the story behind the song "Creatures From The Mud". Here is the story: We'll try to explain our song Creatures from the Mud. The song's story started out with the simple idea to make a really memorable one and the very first sketches were composed on the road during our Russian tour back in 2014. At the start, Dmitry wanted to open up the song with tapping part which would spill over to the heavy and catchy guitar riff.Having considered putting in an atmospheric part with a clean singing on top of it which again would flow into the rough part and then carry on with a bridge to the chorus. The idea of the single came up right after we'd thought of the album concept of the ten Plagues of Egypt. Creatures from the Mud is all about the second Plague, the plague of Frogs. "This is what the great LORD says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. If you refuse to let them go, I will plague your whole country with frogs. The Nile will teem with frogs. They will come up into your palace and your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and on your people, and into your ovens and kneading troughs. The frogs will go up on you and your people and all your officials." -Exodus 8:1-4 We'd already had several versions of this single. When we changed the vocalist, our new singer Andrew rewrote everything and the choir was finally recorded as it should have been, with a crowd of people. For real, as we're a project where everyone lives in different cities, the song itself was created in several of them such as Krasnodar, Moscow, Tula, Kyiv and Saint Petersburg. From now on, we have the final version of Creatures from the Mud in our new LP 'Exodus' which is available in all digital stores and on CD (which exclusively includes an instrumental version as well). Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
