Singled Out: Monico Blonde's Breathe
.
South Wales indie-pop group Monico Blonde tell us about their new single "Breathe" which was produced by Gethin Pearson (The Enemy, Radio On and JAWS). Here is the story: 'Breathe' was the first song we wrote together as a band. It was the starting point for our sound - we took a long time making sure everything in there had a purpose. Different effects were tried, the order of the song was changed around - then we brought in producer Gethin Pearson and we tried even more stuff. Gethin had just finished working with JAWS and The Enemy. It was great - he gets so enthusiastic when recording that it just raises everyone's game. You know the song's cooking when he gets up and starts dancing. That's what we aim for - if Gethin's not dancing yet, something's not right. When recording the song, we listened to a load of different records to influence the sound of the production; LCD Soundsystem for the percussion; Ratatat for the brash, synthetic guitars; Kanye West for the drums. We wanted it sound like nothing else. With 'Breathe', we were discovering our sound. We took the time and we got there. We've been back in the studio with Gethin again the past couple of weeks and think we're onto something really special. This is just the start... Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself here and learn more about the group right here!
