Singled Out: Scam Avenue's Sailor
. ![]() Scam Avenue recently released their "Sailor" EP and to celebrate we asked Lawrence to tell us the story behind the EP's title song "Sailor". Here is the story: One afternoon I was walking down a street in my neighborhood that I had walked down countless times before when out of nowhere I suddenly became very aware of everything being very different. I remembered certain stores, restaurants, and bars--long since gone--that I hadn't thought about in years. I also thought about the people I used to spend time with in those places; many of them had disappeared from my life, too. And many of the ones who remained had changed in profound ways. It was like waking up from a dream. Or being awake and dreaming at the same time. The feeling eventually passed but a kind of lingering sadness remained. So that was the mindset I was in when I wrote the song. When I got home, I sat down at this digital piano I used to have and the music just kind of showed up. As far as the lyrics go, I don't really know what the song is about in that sense. I wasn't trying to directly express how I was feeling at the time. The words just seemed right. Devery calls "Sailor" "the prom song," which is maybe the best way to express what I've been trying to say. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself here and learn more about the EP right here!
