Singled Out: Rews' Shake Shake
. ![]() Ireland / London alt-pop rock duo Rews just released a video for their new single 'Shake Shake' and to celebrate we asked Shauna Tohill to tell us about the song and the new clip. Here is the story: "Both Collette & I are massive thinkers - constantly pondering about life, people, experiences & encounters we've had individually or together & we're always seeking to gain more understanding about everything. The conclusions and thought processes really inform the majority of our writing. Shake Shake was written by me. It was inspired by heartbreak and the 'boomerang' effect that some people fall into after a long term relationship. I was interested in really exploring why we fall into that place - I feel it's not particularly a good thing for us emotionally or physically to allow it to happen but I wondered if sometimes it actually can give closure or helps you to discover a new part of yourself... or maybe it actually does just rub salt into the wounds until you gain strength to walk away... It's pretty intense but ended up writing this song about that particular thought, feeling and process in the aim that it will help comfort / strengthen people going through that part! The recording process was really interesting and fun working with Rocky O'Reilly & Peter McCauley in Start Together studios. We really explored the sounds in the aim to try and capture that raw high energy & intensity of the situation through the right instrument sounds & exploring some of the drum grooves! The video then was created by working with our friend Darren Lee (Maverick Renegade productions) in Glasgowbury music hub where we aimed to create something that would capture our live energy as a duo whilst adding in some metaphorical visuals to empathise with that unsettling feeling that the song is about - which was the camera shutters & our hula hooping (which turns out Collette rocks at!!!) Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the video here and learn more about the group right here!
