The Cure Debut Two New Songs At Tour Kick Off
. ![]() (Radio.com) The Cure kicked off their tour in New Orleans on Tuesday night (May 10) and the veteran band treated fans to not one but two new songs during the concert. Titled "Step Into the Light" and "It Can Never Be the Same," the songs are drastically different in their emotional and melodic qualities. The first song has a mellow feel reminiscent of The Cure's most iconic sound that builds towards a big drum finish as lead singer Robert Smith sings, "We need to step out of the shadows/ And step into the light." The second song, "It Can Never Be the Same," has a much darker, almost melancholy, feel thanks to edgier guitar riffs and a thicker bass sound. The instrumental opening lasts nearly two minutes before Smith's vocals take over. The song bemoans that tension-filled dichotomy that things never change and at the same time they are never the same. Performing at the UNO Lakefront Arena, The Cure played the first of their two-night stop in town. They will perform again tonight (May 11) before heading to Austin, TX on May 13.
