Singled Out: Evol Walks' Without Me
. Even though we are just releasing 'Without Me' in 2016 I originally wrote it in early 2014 after I'd just moved to Los Angeles, California. Several months prior to me leaving I'd been in a relationship with an old friend of mine from high school who I'd loved dearly but our personalities were toxic when mixed. I kind of let it drift apart and ended up dating someone who I became quite serious with very quickly and I never really got the chance to pass that message onto my ex-lover as we'd ceased contact apart from the odd email or Instagram comment. So, anyway- chilling in my new apartment in Los Angeles I started to get regular messages from my ex who was wanting to rekindle things and come over to LA to test it out. I tried to explain that although I really cared about him as a person I was in a serious relationship with someone new and that he and I had our time and it was now over. Being the persistent guy that he was he just didn't seem to understand what I was saying to him and started to become increasingly exasperating to speak to. So one morning I woke up, it was raining (which never happens in LA) I got out my guitar, lit a bunch of candles and started writing the song that became 'Without Me'. I think its important to understand that this song is not a "love song" but it is definitely a song about love, specifically about falling out of love which I truly believe is one of the most heartbreaking things ever. One day you wake up and you realise you just don't feel anything for this person that you've cared about fiercely and shared so much with. When we originally recorded the track with Brian Howes (Airbourne, Skillet, Hinder) in May 2014 I was still really unsure of exactly how to express the intense emotions in this song so the vocals were not as strong as they could have been and the general consensus from everyone who heard it was that we needed to re-record them. At the end of 2015 I finally got back into Brian's studio while on a tour of the West Coast USA and got the chance. Because I'd been performing 'Without Me' live so much I was well practiced at hitting all the vocal sweet spots in the track that enhanced the performance ten fold. On top of this I had recently come out of a long relationship and was feeling a lot of confusing and intense emotions; I was able to harness these and channel them into the final performance and I definitely think this does come across to those that are listening. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and watch the video for the track right here!
