Singled Out: Late Night Fights' Saving Face
.
Today Ryan Guanzon guitarist/vocalist from Minneapolis rockers Late Night Fights tells us the story behind the song "Saving Face" from their debut album "Jousthouse". Here is the story: In a nutshell, this song is about getting taken advantage of by the people you've helped out the most in your life, and then being the one to bail them out when they completely blow it. Although this song isn't necessarily about just one person, I started writing it because I was feeling ultra used and abused by a former bandmate of mine. After a couple years of touring when it became clear that I wasn't going to be treated as an equal it was the beginning of the end. When people get "wrapped up in one," they "don't see clearly," and may never realize that without the efforts of others they would be nothing. As the band got more successful, the inequity only became more pronounced, and ultimately ended up disintegrating it. To top it all off, there was a false front when asked how we operate. I can't think of a bigger blow to the integrity of an organization than standing behind the lies of your leader. The cool thing about the song is it started to relate to many other things happening in all sorts of organizations and relationships. All the cover-ups, rumoring, and generic responses happening in politics, corporate, and pop culture all relates to wanting to save face to please the masses. We used all of these ideas to come up with the video which will be done shortly! Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself and learn more about the album right here!
