Vince Staples On Fergie, Joy Division and Led Zeppelin.
. ![]() (Radio.com) Vince Staples is a man of many tastes, and they are as wide ranging as you can imagine. When the rapper played along with Amoeba Music in Los Angeles for their segment "What's In My Bag," fans and listeners learned a bit more about the kind of music he likes. The segment interviews artists after they've gone "shopping" at the music store to better understand the pop culture that's influenced them. The first album Staples pulls out of his bag is Fergie's The Dutchess. "Bangers, top to bottom," he said of the album. When asked about his favorite track, he said, "'London Bridge,' what you talking about?" He also showed off Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures, which he admitted influenced his own Summertime '06. "A lot of people don't know that," he said. Staples hadn't yet heard the soundtrack from Led Zeppelin's 1973 concert film The Song Remains the Same. "And I consider myself a very good connoisseur, so I'm going to listen to that definitely," he said. Since Joy Division ended up shaping Summertime '06, perhaps Led Zeppelin will find their way onto his next album? Watch the full interview here.
