Coldplay's Chris Martin Covers Prince with 8th Graders

(Radio.com) Coldplay frontman Chris Martin performed a unique version of a Prince song at a Chords 2 Cure benefit concert in Santa Monica, Calif on April 24. During the concert, which raised money for pediatric cancer research, Martin teamed up with a band of eighth graders onstage and covered "Raspberry Beret." In addition, Martin played Coldplay's "Twisted Logic" live for the first time ever.

While "Twisted Logic," off Coldplay's 2005 release X&Y might have been familiar for the teens, as Martin recalls, Prince wasn't. Before the show, Martin suggested the song to the eight graders, who looked at him as if he was speaking Greek: "[I said] 'Let's do this song. It's a very famous Prince song.' They said, 'We don't know it. We've never heard of it. We're, like, 14,'" Martin told the audience.

The band of eighth graders, called the A-Sides, learned the song in three hours. Martin thanked everyone in the audience for allowing him to play their "very special concert. Please feel free to stand and prove your love," Martin said right before the band kicked off the song. Watch it here.
