Singled Out: Legs Electric's Strange Addiction
. Ama: Sniffing dirty diapers, eating cigarette ashes, marrying a doll, chewing on glass? There was a time where I was glued to the TV watching episode after episode of the US series "My Strange Addiction." I was fascinated by the thrill that people got through these personal fixations, and was compelled to write about the subject. I wanted to capture that rush; you can hear it in the lyrics "the urge rising, tangled thoughts are getting higher" and how disconnected addicts can become to the world in "awareness my stranger." I also referenced the secrecy of having a strange addiction that you're hiding from the world in "silent feeding my hunger." We all have our "strange addictions," some more strange than others - and I shall be keeping mine under my belt! Laura: I came up with the riff for "Strange Addiction" after seeing ZZ Top play at the Perth Motorplex in 2011. At this time I was also listening to a lot of Jeff Healey and blended the two influences together to come up with the song. I really wanted to write a song that made people dance, just like how everyone in the crowd feels when they see ZZ Top play. At the time, I lived with Kylie and I took the riff to her to lay down some drums. We then took the basic music to Ama she had some lyrics that fit and we both came up with the chorus. The chorus was later tweaked a bit by producer Joel Quartermain during pre-production. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the video here and learn more about the group right here!
