Today Rai Thistlethwayte of multi-platinum Australian band Thirsty Merc tells us about his new solo single and video "Go Nuts" which comes from his forthcoming studio album that will be out later this year. Here is the story:

I recently saw a write up about my song 'Go Nuts' describing it as a 'Robo-Funk Jam.' That definitely brought a smile to my face. I wrote this one in a Sydney studio with 2 other friends while I was on a 5 day songwriting intensive, and at the time, dug the groove of it but didn't know when, where, and how it would see the light of day. I'm glad that this has become the title track of my recent album, because in an indirect way, the song really speaks of a liberation from many things that before were kind of holding me back previously.

I love what John Fields, the producer, did here - and we 'went there' with the key change and that's gunna stay haha. I love Abe Rounds' drum performance on this, Paul David Hagar's mixing, and Tom Coyne's mastering. It just kept getting better n better.
The video was a blast to shoot too, we shot that in LA. Lyrically, this was an interesting one for me because I wrote the lyrics to it based entirely on scat vocal sounds from my original demo, which I don't do that often. I figured, that instead of trying to hard to make it all be a story or make sense, well this time, because the groove and sounds of those scat sounds were rhythmically and tonally working so well on the demo versions, I'd try to retain that rhythm and those vocal sounds but try and make an abstract story lyrically from that starting point. I think now it's parked in a nice place, it's a kinky throwback pop song with a dance skeleton.

I'm stoked to share it with my friends, listeners and fellow musical associates. I'd love to play it live on tour as soon as possible!

Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you watch the video here, buy the single here and learn more about Rai right here!
