The Holmes Brothers' Willie 'Popsy' Dixon Dead at 72
. (The Blues) Willie 'Popsy' Dixon, drummer and vocalist for the Holmes Brothers, has died of bladder cancer at the age of 72. The band's label Alligator Records say he'd recently been diagnosed with the disease, and he's survived by his partner Isobel Prideaux and his daughter Desiree Berry. Dixon first met Sherman and Wendell Holmes in New York in 1967 and they worked together on several projects before forming the Holmes Brothers in 1979. Their most recent release was last year's 12th title Brotherhood. Alligator say: "Popsy was celebrated for his soaring, soulful, multi-octave vocals, and his driving in-the-pocket drumming."
