Singled Out: Aers' Blue Tempest
. When you are watching yourself in a dream there comes that moment when you try to tell yourself what to do, try to help yourself. But when you realize you are stuck, you become anxious, nervous, and trapped. I found myself with this feeling while isolated in my room during Hurricane Sandy looking out at an empty city. I sat watching the strange winds, the deep grey sky, and the rain tumbling down while secluded quietly inside. This is when the inner storm came to life. "Blue Tempest" is this storm within a storm. At first you are watching this physical, natural calamity take place, but once you are alone for so long, your mind starts spinning; that feeling of being held captive and stuck releases your subconscious. With that come fears and anxieties and you begin to fight with yourself, one side is struggling to keep you free and the other is holding you captive. Even with this inner fight there is a sense of revelation. Amidst the tumult and brutality of a hurricane there is a meditative surrealism and calmness. Floating through that calmness a kind of natural balance is reached as the storm reminds us that we are inconsequential to nature happening and that our own fears and anxieties are inconsequential to us. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself here and learn more about the group right here!
