This song has some history with the band. It's the 2nd song on the new album and one of my favourites. It was also released on our 2nd ep 'Corned Beef Colossus' in 2013 and an original, totally different version was on a very early demo many moons ago.

Back in the day I was just rattling through some different bits on an acoustic guitar and fell upon the lead lick. It really caught my attention and within no time I had an acoustic song with some vocals pretty much down. I transferred it to electric and was listening to a lot of tool at the time so used a lot of variation with effect and delay. We used it on a very early demo that hopefully nobody still has! It's totally different to what it sounds like now.

The song had a lot going for it but the original composition and lyrics were pretty bad! Fast forward to 2012 when messing around at rehearsal I slowed the whole thing down with lots of distortion and it sounded heavy. The band loved it so Kip put new vocals over it and I added a solo as an outro. We took it out to Sweden and recorded it as slowed down baddas heavy brother of the original demo. The EP version is slower than we play it live but sounds great. We recorded the EP in Sweden by Truckfighters.

When we signed to Napalm and was working on our first full length 'Slab City' we picked a couple of tracks from previous releases and one of those tracks was 'Liquid Gold'. We wanted to have a new recording that reflected the way we play it live, much faster and more energy. I think this 'Slab City' version does that and it's cool to have the 2 versions of the song on record. Both are cool.

That's the story of Liquid Gold. Maybe we will release it again. Maybe a greatest hits! Haha!
