Disney Channel star Alexandra Shipp takes the helm playing the late R&B singer, and appears in the trailer wearing several classic Aaliyah-esque outfits: Timberlands, camo pants and crop tops.

You can see clips of her dancing and working in the studio, as actress Rachael Crawford, who plays her mother, gives her advice: "It takes more than some hot producer to create a superstar. It takes the right artist."
