Singled Out: Archie Powell and the Exports' Holes
. "Holes" is about bad communication. It wasn't written with anyone in particular in mind, but it can apply to any sort of inter-personal relationship, romantic or otherwise. I feel like this song goes a lot of places in a short amount of time. Every time I get to the end I'm surprised that it's only about two and a half minutes. The tension we build throughout is something I'm really proud of, and it lends itself nicely as a compliment to the lyrical content. This is one of those tunes that congealed in my brain while I was at work. Damn thing wrote itself, chords and all. Didn't even have to mess around on a guitar or piano to knock it out. It's kind of a wonder that I was even able to remember the idea after working a full day, but I'm glad I did. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself as you check out the video here and learn more about the album right here!
