August Alsina Talks Influences, State of R&B and More
. Being from New Orleans, August says that the album is "basically my life, where I come from." Collaborating with Rick Ross, Yo Gotti, Fabolous, Pusha T and more, August believes that he wanted to keep most of the songs to himself since this was his first album. While August doesn't look up to anyone in the R&B game, he did say that his music is influenced by Lauryn Hill and Lyfe Jennings. Going further, he didn't really understand what the state of R&B is right now. He believes that back in the day guys would always play R&B music with their lady friends, but nowadays they "don't feel comfortable" and don't "wanna be seen" listening to it.
