Hunter Hayes Release 'Invisible' Video
. "I always write about something pretty personal, [but] this sets a new standard for me," he told Radio.com about his new song, which addresses being bullied and feeling like an outcast. "I didn't go in to write this song necessarily, I went in to write something else. [Songwriters] Bonnie Baker, Katrina Elam and I ended up writing about how we all, in different ways, can relate to the message of being an outcast, being misunderstood, being essentially bullied. I say that very carefully because I know there's a lot of people who go through that on a much larger scale." He added, "In whatever way I can relate to it, the song is about that. It's about disappearing among the crowd, not having a place to fit in, being different you know? Being a music geek in high school, middle school, [and] now, I've just now gotten comfortable with the fact that I can call myself a geek and be proud of it." Hayes told CBS This Morning during an interview that as a kid, he was very focused on music from an early age, which often left him, as the song title suggests, 'invisible' to others around him. "That was my heart and soul. That was my comfort zone," he said of music. "I was a total geek. I was a total nerd. I still am and I'm proud of that, but it took me awhile to realize it's okay to be proud of that." The video brings the song, which he originally debuted at the GRAMMYs, to life, showing different characters being treated unfairly. From a boy being taunted at his locker to a girl getting papers thrown at her during class to another young boy going home to find nothing to eat. "Those words cut deep, but they don't mean you're all alone/ You're not invisible," Hayes sings. Watch the video here. Radio.com is an official news provider for antiMusic.com.
