Big Boi Raps About the Khaleesi on 'Mother of Dragons'

(Radio.com) Looks like Stevie Nicks isn't the only musician to be inspired by the HBO fantasy series "Game of Thrones." As Radio.com reported this week, even rappers are getting in on the act with HBO's promotional Catch the Throne mixtape, featuring Big Boi, Wale, Common, Daddy Yankee and many more from the rap and Latin music worlds.

On the mixtape's lead-off single, "Mother of Dragons,"Big Boi has the honor of shouting out specific characters like Jon Snow and the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen, and referencing major plot-lines including The Red Wedding - no spoilers here.

With its nerdy, series-specific name dropping, it's easy to see "Mother of Dragons" and Catch the Throne taking cues from the Shaolin martial arts-obsessed Wu-Tang Clan, which has inspired generations of karate-and-comic-book obsessed hip-hop heads.

The ominous "Mother of Dragons" hook of "dungeons, dragons/kings and queens" creates a foreboding version of what's actually a fairly standard track for Big Boi to rap over. Now if the Atlanta rapper started talking smack about King Joffrey, oh, it woulda been on.

The unorthodox mixtape will be released for free download tomorrow (Mar 7), ahead of the fourth-season premiere of Game of Thrones on April 6.
