Chris Daughtry Talks Tour With Goo Goo Dolls
. Strangely, though, 2014 marks the first time the two bands have gone out on tour together - and frankly, frontman Chris Daughtry doesn't know why a co-headlining gig took this long. "We've done shows together with the Goo Goo Dolls back in the day when our first record came out," Daughtry told Radio.com. "We've actually talked about touring for probably every year since, and we've just never been able to line up our schedules. Not sure why it took so long. It definitely makes sense." The two bands are joined by the Plain White T's for an extensive spring and summer tour this year. The trek kicked off last week in Wallingford, Conn., and currently runs through August. The tour comes at a time when Daughtry has not only an album (2013′s Baptized) but also a new single to promote. Released last month, "Battleships" is the five-piece group's second single off Baptized - though, originally, Chris Daughtry wanted it as the first new tune audiences would hear from the album. "I wanted 'Battleships' to be the first single," he said. "It was so drastically different from anything we had done before, that I kind of wanted it to hit people and go, 'Oh, whoa. This is weird. This is different.'" Instead, he said, they eventually decided to go with "Waiting for Superman," which turned into a modest hit on adult contemporary radio.
