Disney's Zendaya Cast As Aaliyah in Biopic

. (Radio.com) An upcoming Aaliyah biopic has found its leading lady. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zendaya Coleman will play the late R&B singer in an upcoming Lifetime made-for-television film, which is currently in its infancy in terms of production.

The 17-year-old Coleman, who goes by her first name only in show business, is a Disney Channel star whose credits include the TV series Shake It Up. She's also had a decent music career, hitting the top 40 in the U.S. with the single "Replay."

The film, currently tentatively titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, is based off the book Aaliyah: More Than a Woman by Christopher Farley. Aaliyah died Aug. 25, 2001, in a plane crash. more on this story
